East Gippsland Bird Observation and Conservation (EGBOC) is a regional branch of Bird Observation and Conservation Australia (BOCA). BOCA is a national organisation promoting the appreciation, understanding and conservation of birds and their habitats.
The EGBOC region covers the East Gippsland and Wellington Shire Councils in Victoria’s east, and includes some of the state’s most magnificent wilderness areas. It encompasses the extensive waterways of the Gippsland Lakes, 90 Mile Beach, the iconic Snowy River region, extensive old-growth forests, alpine meadows and the last free-flowing wild rivers of southeast Australia.
EGBOC conducts regular birding excursions every Monday outside school summer holidays and some public holidays. We also run several birding camps each year and projects involving regular monitoring of birds at particular sites (see Projects).
The club newsletter, The Chat, is published four times a year and is also available on-line. Prospective members are welcome to join us on a few outings to see how we operate and to find out if our club meets their needs before officially joining.
